Gerald Potash runs the Famous Tour and will be your tour guide. His speciality is day tours that concentrate on Stellenbosch and the areas around this historical village.
He practised briefly as a lawyer in a Cape Town law firm for a little more than a year in the early 70’s and then joined the family business in Stellenbosch and became a well-known retailer.
When he sold the business he began being asked to take friends (and their friends) on tours of the area where he grew up, worked and studied and it was natural that he became interested in tourism.
The tours that are conducted under the banner ”The Famous Tour” began several years ago when friends from Australia asked Gerald to do a tour of Stellenbosch. That tour became known as the “Almost Famous Tour” but now since Gerald has become an official accredited tour guide the “Almost” has been dropped.
Gerald has travelled extensively overseas and often on business buying trips and sponsored trade promotional tours. He has visited all the continents several times.
Each of The Famous Tours can be tailor-made to suite the pax and changes on any day can also be made as the tour progresses. Flexibility is the essence and a relaxed convivial tour is the goal. Ideally the tour will consist of 2-4 persons but more can be accommodated with forward planning.
Gerald is keen on journalism and writes a weekly newsletter about South Africa. It is reasonably political and gets read in many countries and he also wrote extensively for trade journals while he was in business.
Hobbies are bridge (at championship level) and sport. Bridge tours of Cape Town are now becoming a real likelihood with the major shipping lines having been approached.
Well Yvonne and I eventually returned from our South African odyssey yesterday and what a trip it was.Mike Lazarow, Australia
